Second month results

In the second month of the year long jam, I finally had time to work on a bit of polish for the game.  Having time to actually get things I don't necessarily spend time on in a "traditional" jam felt great.   Let me go over what I was able to do:

  • Overhauled Mech Bay.
  • Added order delays for both suits and pilots.
  • Added help menus to most pages.
  • Added Commander page to game where you can see the extra pilot haircuts, jackets and faces.
  • Added more pilot customization options.
  • Added music and sound effects at a basic level.
  • Added more customization options for setting up the squad for encounters.
  • Added more encounters (short patrol, patrol, long patrol)
  • Surfaced more information to the player on multiple screens.
  • Added a loss scenario to the game.
  • Various bug fixes.

That's a lot of features and fixes!  I'm very happy with the progress I made on Mecha Patrol.   That being said, there are some things that I would have liked to have added to this game, but simply ran out of time, as always.  For the next month, I plan on focusing on fleshing out the encounter screen further.  I want to  give the enemy suits and vehicles more "presence" in the  game.  Give them more options for encounters, like setting an ambush, defend from attacks and such events, will make the encounter screen more engaging than what I was able to put in for this month.  I also want to go through one or a few of the screens and really spend time polishing up the visuals to meet the standards that I want for the game.
